The idea of having a Health Sciences Research Assembly (HRSA) was initiated by Dr Mohammad Khurshid, Dean, Aga Khan University Medical College in 2005. The purpose of this event was to galvanise faculty and create an environment conducive for collaboration and collegiality in research work. The HRSA
endorses considerable research activities taking place at AKU. It is an effort to bring faculty, fellows, residents and students on one platform to share their research proposals, published work and work in progress in the form of abstracts and posters. This is an annual, event which provides space for deliberations, sharing of ideas, positive critique and future collaborations between departments, faculty and students. It is an opportunity for AKU researchers to view each others' work, exchange ideas and share knowledge, which is generally not possible due to their very busy schedules.
The first HSRA was successfully conducted in 2005. It has since become a much awaited annual event where researchers identify their areas of interest in research and collaborations are nurtured. The Research Assembly has effectively provided necessary stimulus to enhance the research culture at all campuses of AKU.
