During 2009-10, AKU-SON faculty published 15 articles in indexed journals and 18 articles in non-indexed journals, 1 book chapter, and a book. The themes of published articles include: maternal, neonatal and child health; nursing education; healthcare systems; and, issues of nursing management.
AKU-SON faculty members have secured approximately $109,900 in income since April 2009: $35,000 in consultancies,$26,000 in programmatic grants, $39,000 in research grants from external sources, and $ 9,900 worth of research grants from the University Research Council. Research grants worth $195,000 from external sources are currently in the pipeline.
Funding in the amount of $473,582has been secured from USAID for AKU-SON's projects in Afghanistan. AKU-SON is applying for a grant worth $3.8 million over a period of three years from Agence Francaise Developpement for nursing programmes in Kabul and Afghan Badakhshan as part of an AKDN initiative.
