Academics

At the School of Nursing and Midwifery nurses are given an exceptional education in our flexible programmes which allow them to work and study simultaneously. Our primary focus is to enhance the professional competence of working nurses. We emphasise compassionate and exemplary patient care through a competency based curriculum with a holistic approach to learning.

Nurses have supervised clinical work and we have a well resourced environment with outstanding faculty and state-of-the-art facilities. We endeavor to offer our students diverse experience in clinical practice settings at all levels of care, which is central in nurturing dynamic nursing professionals who are able to competently provide exemplary care irrespective of the clinical setting.

Whether you are looking to enhance your qualifications or change careers, we have the right academic programme for you.

We offer Enrolled Nurse to Registered Nurse Diploma and Bachelor of Science in Nursing upgrading programmes. Our programmes aim to:

  • Enhance the managerial and clinical skills of nurses at all levels of service;
  • Improve the quality of patient care and the health status in East African communities;
  • Respond to the changing patterns of health care and epidemiological trends in East Africa, and contribute to needed reforms of the healthcare systems; and
  • Enhance the status of women professionals, who represent the majority of nursing professionals in East Africa.

We are also currently in the process of planning an innovative undergraduate nursing and midwifery programme.
