Postgraduate Medical Education, Pakistan

The first postgraduate clinical training programmes at Aga Khan University (AKU) were launched following the inauguration of Aga Khan University Hospital in 1985. These initial programmes marked the beginning of Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) at the University.

Since critical thinking and analysis happen to be the keystone of scientific thought and the prerequisite for meaningful scholarship and research, it is essential for any educational programme to encompass aspects such as biomedical ethics, teaching skills, research methodology as well as communication skills.

PGME at AKU strives to instil these qualities into its graduates through carefully structured programmes. The objective is not to produce skilled technologists but to facilitate a process of broad professional and personal development. All our trainees represent the University in their interactions with patients and colleagues, and are expected to carry their duties and activities in a manner befitting their responsibilities.

We offer a one-year Internship programme, Residency programmes in 31 disciplines and Fellowship programmes in 28 disciplines. Our Internship programme is recognised by both, the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) and Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC). All our Residency and most Fellowship programmes are recognised by CPSP and some of our Fellowship programmes are the only of their kind in Pakistan.
We welcome you to explore rewarding opportunities of your interest.
