Aga Khan University (AKU) offers following Postgraduate Medical Education programmes:

Internship Programme:

This is a one-year programme offered to fresh medical graduates.  The internship programme at Aga Khan University is recognised by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) and the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC). All universities in USA and UK also recognise our internship programme after internal verification.

Residency Programmes:

Currently there are 31 residency training programmes leading to first fellowship from College of Physicians and Surgeons (FCPS) accredited by College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP).  The duration of training varies from 3 to 5 years.

Fellowship Programmes:

The Fellowship programmes of AKU build on the strengths of the residency programmes.  AKU recognised the need for trained sub-specialists in the country and undertook to develop educational programmes so that this need could be fulfilled.  In many cases these programmes are the only training programmes of their kind in the country – providing training to the highest level in each sub-specialty.

In general, the fellowship programmes provide training using rigorous standards similar to those used in the residency programmes.  In view of the seniority and experience of the fellows their responsibilities, work and duties reflect this and capitalise on their expertise.  Many programmes emphasise research as well.

Currently, there are 27 fellowship programmes many of whom are recognised by College of Physicians and Surgeons as second fellowship programmes.

There are currently approximately 425 trainees, including interns, residents and fellows.
