This doctoral research study investigated the role of periodontitis in pre-term low birth weight.

The objectives of the study are to:

• investigate the role of periodontal infection as possible risk factor for PLBW;
• determine the prevalence of dental health status and practice in a defined population of pregnant women in Pakistan
• to evaluate methods of determining gestational age
