Research Interests
Research interests include determining the pharmacological basis for the medicinal use of indigenous medicinal remedies and pure compounds in gastrointestinal, respiratory and cardiovascular disorders using an array of in-vivo and in-vitro assays. A series of experiments have been designed to elucidate the preliminary involvement of opioid, muscarinic, histaminergic, serotonergic and adrenergic receptor-mediated actions on the part of test compounds. Moreover, some of the ion channels such as, voltage-dependent calcium channels and different types of potassium channels (ATP-dependent, calcium-activated, inward rectifying and voltage dependent) have also been targeted. In addition, considering diabetes and diabetes-associated hypertension as a commonly prevailing disorder in our community, an attempt to validate the usefulness of some medicinal remedies and novel compounds using different in- vivo and in-vitro models is in process
