Postgraduate Medical Education
The Postgraduate Medical Education programmes of Aga Khan University are offered in Pakistan and East Africa and aim to provide education of the highest quality. The end product is a qualified academic professional who meets the highest professional standards of his/her chosen specialty. The programmes stress the acquisition not only of medical skills and knowledge but also the development of professionalism, a scientifically rigorous mind and a compassionate approach towards patients.
Postgraduate Medical Education in Pakistan offers residency programmes in 31 disciplines and fellowship programmes in 27 disciplines. In addition, it also offers a one-year Internship programme for fresh medical graduates.
In East Africa, residency programmes are offered in 9 disciplines leading to a Masters of Medicine (MMed) degree.
The activities of postgraduate medical education have also been expanded to Afghanistan. French Medical Institute for Children (FMIC) a sister institute of Aga Khan University has started residency programmes in Paediatrics and Paediatric Surgery disciplines from April 2012 under the guidance of Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) Pakistan. It is planned to launch more residency programmes in future.
