QAA Recognition Scheme for Educational Oversight
The Aga Khan University (International) in the United Kingdom Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations (AKU-ISMC) has undergone a review for educational oversight by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) and have received its final report, which is available in full at: www.qaa.ac.uk/InstitutionReports/Reports/Pages/RSEO-Aga-Khan-UKInstitute.aspx
We have received the following judgements from QAA:
- The review panel has confidence that AKU-ISMC effectively discharges its responsibilities for the management of academic standards.
- The review panel has confidence that AKU-ISMC effectively discharges its responsibilities for the management of the quality of the learning opportunities which it makes available to students.
- The review panel concludes that reliance can be placed on the public information that AKU-ISMC supplies about itself.
British Accreditation Council (BAC)
AKU-ISMC is accredited by the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education. The Institute offers an MA in Muslim Cultures, awarded under the authority of the AKU charter in Pakistan.
UK NARIC, the British agency which has responsibility for advising on comparability of qualifications, has confirmed that the AKU-ISMC’s MA in Muslim Cultures is comparable to a British Masters and to level 7 in the UK Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
UK Border Agency (UKBA)
AKU-ISMC has been awarded an "Highly Trusted" Tier 4 Sponsor's Licence by the UK Border Agency. This Sponsor's Licence permits AKU-ISMC to issue a confirmation of acceptance for studies (CAS) to prospective students. A CAS is required by the UKBA for any non-EEA international student seeking to obtain entry clearance to the UK.
