Master of Arts in Muslim Cultures

Overview

AKU-ISMC offers a two-year, full-time MA in Muslim Cultures from AKU's London campus. This unique degree offers a distinctive way of understanding Muslim cultures in all of their geographical, linguistic and cultural diversity.

By combining courses from a range of disciplines within the humanities and social sciences, students are able to study the cultural and intellectual history within which religious ideas and practices have meaning.

Through this approach, cultural manifestations such as art, poetry and architecture are examined alongside doctrine, law and religious practice.

The MA Programme seeks to provide students with the skills to place Muslim cultures within their historical contexts, enabling them to comprehensively understand contemporary Muslims societies.  For more details please se the MA in Muslim Cultures - Programme Specification.

Student's Perspective

"The multidisciplinary nature of the MA programme at AKU-ISMC coupled with the great diversity of both the student cohort and London makes the whole experience intellectually engaging and culturally enriching. It not only opens up new ways of thinking, but develops an appreciation for differing points of view."

- Razi Allah Lone, Class of 2012
