Research and Policy Studies
The Research and Policy Studies (RAPS) initiative is aimed at strengthening Institute for Educational Development's (IED) capacity in educational research and policy analysis and in promoting the role of research in educational policy and practice in developing countries.
To this end, RAPS provides leadership and support in doing and disseminating research, and initiating policy dialogues with relevant stakeholders.
Doing Research
RAPS facilitate both the conduct of new research and the integration and analysis of findings from existing research in the following areas of research focus:
- Teaching and Teacher Education;
- Educational Leadership and Management;
- Themes Cutting Across Education such as gender, citizenship, technology and health.
These focus areas have been identified by the faculty because of their relevance to AKU-IED's current interests and to issues in developing countries. They may therefore change in the long-term.
Disseminating Research
RAPS undertake initiatives to disseminate existing, ongoing and future research work in the areas of institutional priority. It supports faculty in disseminating their research findings not only to the academic community but also to policy makers and implementers at different levels (including teachers).
Findings are disseminated through publication in academic journals, occasional in-house publications on key educational issues for policy makers, presentations at national and international conferences, research seminars in schools which have participated in a research study, and formal and informal dialogues with policy makers.
RAPS aims to make research reports and papers available to a larger audience through the university website in the near future.
