As part of the Whole School Improvement Programme (WSIP), Strengthening Teacher Education in Pakistan (STEP) project celebrated the International Literacy Day on September 8, 2012 in the districts it operates.
This year the theme of the literacy was ‘Literacy and Peace”. The head teachers, lead teachers, students and district coordinators worked together and organised the event. The aim of the activity was to appreciate and celebrate the opportunity of being literate and to promote the message of importance of primary education. The activities included students’ drawing competition, advocacy walk by students to increase enrolment at primary level and role play in schools.
The day also provided an opportunity for teachers and others to interact with the local community and communicate the importance of primary education.
