The Professional Development Centre, Karachi (PDC,K) located at and embedded within AKU-IED, works under the umbrella of AKU-IED's outreach portfolio. The Centre serves as a hub of professional development opportunities, where we offer needs-based professional development programmes, such as Certificate in Education and short-duration Continuing Professional Education (CPE) programmes.
 
These programmes/courses provide in-service teachers, teacher educators and others in the field of education, opportunities for updating their content knowledge and skills, as well as learning about new areas of pedagogy and practice.

Our programmes

Our certificate programme duration is usually spread over 8-10 weeks. These courses are offered to in-service teachers/school heads in the following two categories:

  1. Curriculum Areas (English, maths, science, social studies, primary education) 
  2. Educational Leadership and Management 

Our CPE courses range from one-day workshops to week-long sessions. With these courses, we cater to the wide-ranging needs of diverse audiences, such as teachers, teacher educators, head teachers, executives, educational leaders and managers, policy makers, curriculum planners and other practitioners. Our CPE offerings include the following areas:
