Overarching Themes
The comparative advantage of the FAS EA will lie in thematic focus on vital issues, where knowledge is integrated and applied in the region.
Resilience is an integrated approach to enhancing adaptive capacity of landscapes, communities and institutions to shocks such as climate change and globalisation;
Human Development: early life experience has recently been discovered to be decisive on the future of the child. This impact calls for an approach to understanding and enhancing human potential that integrates genetics, the social sciences, the arts and natural sciences;
Pluralism is vital in a region that has seen inter-ethnic violence and genocide, but must go beyond respecting diversity to grasping and honouring the many parts within and connection among individuals, communities, cultures and civilisations.
