Project Description

|
Assist an Associate Professor in preparing for a research study examining the sociocultural factors which may impact newborn health and survival in the first 6 months of life.
|
|
Responsibilities
|
|
- Develop training modules (e.g., interviewing skills) for individual hired from the community who will work as research assistants
- Conduct mock interviews with the research assistants
- Develop teaching aids related to ethical conduct of research
- Assist in preparing for ethics review
- Assist with publication of proposal, and a review article
- Update literature review of the study
|

Eligibility
|
|
- Enrollment in a Bachelor's or a Master's programme in Community Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Nursing, Professional Writing or related field
- Must have worked as a research assistant and familiar with the research process
- Able to conduct comprehensive literature searches, synthesize information
- Has developed teaching manuals or modules and implement them
- Good organizational skills, self-directed, can work independently with minimal supervision, excellent academic writing skills, computer skills SPSS, excel, MS word, reference manager (e.g., ENDNOTE), PowerPoint. Flexible, enjoys a challenge

Expected Project Outcome
|
|
- Submit grant for ethics review
- Teaching modules (e.g., interview skills, and ethical conduct of research) developed and implemented
- Submit one to two manuscripts for publication
- Update literature review of the study

Benefits

The selected intern will be provided with furnished accommodations as well as a living stipend to cover minimal daily expenses. All visa processing costs will also be covered. Please note that air travel is not covered by AKU, the students should have a minimum access to savings for the duration of this internship.
