Project Description  

FHS-EA currently runs upgrading programmes in nursing and a Masters in medicine. In 2015 FHS is expected to open its undergraduate nursing and medcine programmes in Kenya that serve East Africa. However, both within and between countries in East Africa there are varying educational and examination systems. FHS and FAS (Faculty of arts and sciences) would like ensure a diversity in intake without compromising on the quality of the itnake pool. Thus a Student itnake task force and working group has been set up, which the intern will support as below.

Responsibilities  

1. Work with the FHS-FAS Student Intake Task force to:

  • Identify the target schools and target student pools, especially for the first couple of intake cohorts, ensuring a spectrum of schools and systems including ‘quality’ schools from the various countries in EA
  • Identifying what current school leavers higher education destinations are for medicine and nursing in Kenya
  • Determine best practice in marketing nursing and medicine undergraduate programmes in EA
  • Support FHS and the Registrar's Office with the mock placement testing to assess  how students from a variety of educational systems fair in our entrance exam
  • Assess best international practice with respect to admission processes to medical and nursing schools

2. Creating online surveys e.g. to assess student satisfaction

3. Update content on the AKU-FHS website

4. Work as a research assistant on nurse and medicine itnernship competencies studies

5. Desk research for the student intake task force and working group

6. Report writing

Eligibility  
  • Enrollment in an Undergraduate or a Graduate programme
  • Understanding of basic statistics and health sciences is required
  • Ability to meet deadlines and willingness to learn
  • Good communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of Market analysis, Health informatics, nutritional sciences and health promotion will be an asset
Benefits  

The selected intern will be provided with furnished accommodations as well as a living stipend to cover minimal daily expenses. All visa processing costs will also be covered.

Please note that air travel is not covered by AKU, the students should have a minimum access to savings for the duration of this internship.
