Introduction

Aga Khan University invites application for the position of Veterinarian.

Responsibilities

​The Veterinarian will primarily be involved in ensuring maintenance of health of animals maintained for research and laboratory tests and assuring safety of personnel handling animals. He/she will be responsible for the following:

  • supervise breeding, maintenance, transfer, disposal and research use of animals, and environmental requirements; develop relevant policies and procedures; perform periodic health screening and investigate disease outbreaks; monitor animal health and safety related activities
  • review animal research proposals and oversee execution of research projects involving animals; collect, analyze, present and publish data regarding the animal facility and its activities, and generate reports as required by the supervisor; contribute to review of policies and guidelines for the use of animals in research
  • develop training programmes on animal handling and help in  teaching of staff, students, faculty and other clients (external and internal) on animal research, health and related issues
  • assist in administrative assignments for the above and as assigned by the Dean of Research and Graduate Studies.
Requirements

​Candidates should have:

  • A degree in Veterinary Medicine (DVM), or an equivalent degree
  • At least three years’ experience preferably in animal research laboratory
  • Core knowledge of animal health, especially small animals (e.g. rodents)
  • Knowledge of animal models of human diseases, and national and international guidelines and regulations on animal research.
