​Senior Instructor


​Aga Khan University Human Development Programme (AKU-HDP) explores the potential for influencing processes by which individuals, families, social groups and populations progress towards achieving their potential level of physical, mental, social and economic health and well-being. The initial focus of this Programme is to enhance human development through Early Child Development (ECD). Its community based ECD and parenting model interventions are directed towards improvement of child care and nurture by provision of appropriate information and development of skills for mothers, their families and the wider community, based on research. 

The Programme also offers capacity building opportunities to professionals engaged in maternal and child care through education, training and modeling of effective service.

Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of ​Senior Instructor.

​The appointee will be responsible to:

  • contribute to education and training activities and actively participate in the curricular renewal exercise
  • conform to University’s policies and established performance norms for evaluation of students/course participants ensuring that this is based on fair and equitable parameters, and provide required feedback to students for the same on timely basis
  • mentor junior faculty/staff members to facilitate their development for teaching and research
  • supervise and mentor AKU- HDP research and data management teams
  • develop research projects, design research instruments, undertake independent and collaborative research, synthesize findings, and disseminate the conclusions to a wider audience
  • participate in continuing professional development programmes for self-development, and also engage in other professional development activities to keep self-updated on current practices and trends in education development
  • participate in national and international professional associations
  • conduct and participate in meetings and sessions with stakeholders in ECD
  • perform special academic/University service tasks assigned by the Department Head or designee.

​Candidates should have:

  • a Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Sciences, Health, ECD or in related field
  • four to five years of experience preferably in community development, academic research and child development; community-related research is desirable
  • demonstrated independent professional accomplishment and evidence of sustained successful performance in teaching and scholarly activities including publications
  • good conceptual, analytical and communication skills, both oral and written
  • good interpersonal skills with an ability to work well with teams
  • good understanding of local practices, culture and community dynamics
  • experience in writing research proposals and conducting research
  • ability to supervise and guide research activities
  • good leadership skills with sound knowledge of educational leadership and management
  • proficiency in use of related computer software.
