​Manager Curriculum and Examination Development​

​Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKU-EB) is a Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, established in 2003 by Aga Khan University in response to a demand from schools for more appropriate school examinations. AKU-EB’s primary objective is to improve the quality of education by making examinations of a reputable standard more accessible to Pakistani students and having them increasingly valued by leading higher education institutions within and outside the country.
Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Manager Curriculum and Examination Development.

The appointee will provide academic leadership to a team of a dozen full time Subject Specialists in designing subject syllabuses, reviewing and selecting appropriate text books to support the teaching of these subjects and manage the construction of examination which promotes the fundamental cconceptualisation of their subject. S/he will oversee the maintenance of performance standards in grades VI-XII tests and examinations as well as work towards their enhancement through progressive syllabus modification.
Specifically, s/he will be responsible to:

  • recommend a balanced choice of subjects that is relevant and beneficent to Pakistan’s context while formulating policy in relation to the quality and relevance of the examination board’s assessment instruments
  • shape and manage a reformulation of the subject officer’s role as leader of a curriculum and examinations team of part-time examiners, question setters, markers and subject panelists
  • proactively monitor the performance of curriculum teams in order to recommend the continuation or discontinuation, of team members
  • monitor and take ultimate responsibility for EB’s electronic and hard copy item banks, its most precious institutional resource
  • supervise daily work patterns and accommodate changes in workload/priorities, and work products
  • follow-up with schools the accessibility and implementation of the examination syllabi, advise the training department on priorities and identify curriculum team members who can assist the school improvement effort
  • supervise individual performance feedback to schools for change in school effectiveness
  • represent AKU-EB externally with Government of Pakistan officials, civil society, schools and colleges as well as donor agencies as required
  • advise on necessary amendments to or augmentation of EB’s website.

​Candidates should have:

  • a Master's degree with a formal qualification in education
  • strong consultation skills for conferencing with teachers and key stakeholders
  • excellent organization and interpersonal skills
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills both in English and in Urdu
  • knowledge of modern developments, trends, principles, practices and theories in education and educational assessment, accountability, or evaluation
  • ability to resolve conflicting high-priority requirements.
