2^nd TWENTY20 RAMADAN COLOR KIT CRICKET TOURNAMENT 2006

The Aga Khan University (AKU) Sports Centre organized its 2^nd AKU Twenty20 Ramadan Color Kit Cricket Tournament 2006 which commenced from Sunday, September 24, 2006 at the AKU Sports Ground.  Six prominent Cricket Teams of the city took part in the tournament. ABN AMRO Bank, NIB Bank, UFONE, Dubai Islamic Bank, AKU Staff 'A' Team and AKU Faculty and Staff Team.  The tournament was played on Single League Basis.

Inauguration

Zaheer Abbas, Former Captain and Manager Pakistan Cricket Team along with Test Cricketer Hasan Raza, Riaz Akbar Contractor, Manager AKU Sports & Rehabilitation Centre and Chief Organizer, Hanif Sharif, Sr. Manager AKU Administrative Services officially inaugurated the Cricket Tournament The inaugural match was played between UFONE and AKU Faculty & Staff Team which was won by AKU Faculty & Staff after a thrilling and exciting finish by 04 Runs. Zaheer Abbas appreciated the efforts of the Sports Centre Management for organizing the Ramadan Cricket Tournament and giving the opportunity to the teams to play in an excellent facility. He said that it gave him immense pleasure to visit the AKU Sports Centre Ground again after a lapse of 8 years as he had officially inaugurated the Cricket Field in December 1998.

ABN AMRO BANK WINS THE AKU TWENTY20 RAMADAN CRICKET TITLE

ABN AMRO Bank annexed the 2^nd AKU Twenty20 Ramadan Color Cricket Tournament 2006 Trophy after beating AKU Staff 'A' Team by 8 runs in the final at AKU Sports Centre Ground on Sunday, October 22, 2006. The highlights of the final were the glorious knock by Zahid Raza 44 (2x4, 5x6), Sameer Khan 39 (8x4) from ABN AMRO and Mir Afzal Baig 59 (2x6, 5x4) of AKU. Tidy Bowling by Moiz Mehdi (3-18) in 3. 5 overs of AKU, Zahid Raza 3-15 and Nauman Jamil 3-24 of ABN AMRO.

The Chief Guest Mr. Navroz Surani, Director Human Resources, AKU distributed the prizes amongst the players. The Winning Trophy was received by Zahid Raza, Captain of ABN AMRO Bank and Adnan Jafri, Skipper of AKU Staff "A' Team received the Runner's Up Trophy.  Best Batsmen Award was given to Asif Mughal of NIB Bank (259 runs in 5 innings), Best Bowler Award was awarded to Shiraz Ahmed of ABN AMRO Bank (12 wickets/143 runs in 20 overs), Player of the Tournament Award was given to Zahid Raza of ABN AMRO Bank (9 Wkts of just 82 runs in 16 overs- 120 in 4 innings) and Man of the Final match was also given to Zahid Raza of ABN AMRO Bank (44 runs and took 3/15 runs).

Mr. Navroz Surani in his address appreciated the efforts of the AKU Sports Centre Management for the successful completion of the Ramadan Cricket Tournament.  He specially thanked Riaz Akbar Contractor and his Team for inviting him. Earlier Riaz Akbar Contractor described the main features of the tournament and thanked the participating teams and hoped that the organizations will also cooperate in future programmes too. Riaz Akbar Contractor in his welcome speech thanked Mr. Surani and other distinguished guests who spared their valuable time to attend the final.
