3^rd ALL KARACHI INTER- SCHOOL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT 2006

The Aga Khan University (AKU) Sports & Rehabilitation Centre organized its 3^rd All Karachi Inter-School Basketball Tournament (for boys under 17 years) in the first week of September, 2006. Seven Teams representing reputable Educational Institutions across Karachi took part in the Tournament.  The teams were divided into 2 pools: Pool 'A' comprised of: The City School (Gulshan Campus), Frobel's Education Centre, Bayview Academy and Shah Wilayat Public School.  Pool 'B' comprised of: The City School (Darkhshan Campus), Arts & Science Academy and Prince Aly Boys Academy. The round matches were played on league basis.  The top two teams from each pool played the semi-finals and the winners of the Semi-Finals played the final. All the matches were played at the AKU Sports Centre Gymnasium.

Inauguration

The inaugural of the Basketball Tournament 2006 was held on Saturday, September 3, 2006 at the AKU Sports Centre Gymnasium.  A colorful inaugural ceremony was held with teams in their sports uniforms. Mr. Afroz Ali Merchant, Manager, Human Resource Development Dept., AKU inaugurated the Tournament along with Riaz Akbar Contractor, Chief Organizer & Manager, AKU Sports Centre. The Teams and the officials were introduced to the Chief Guest who later tossed the ball and officially inaugurated the Tournament.  On the opening day, two matches were played.  The matches were supervised by International Aslam Niazi and Ghulam Rasool.  The official results are enclosed.

THE CITY SCHOOL(Gulshan Campus)VsSHAH WILAYAT PUBLIC SCHOOL (Pool A ).

The inaugural match was played between The City School (Gulshan Campus) and Shah Wilayat Public School. SHAH WILAYAT PUBLIC SCHOOL won the match with a thrilling finish at the ninth second. Mirza Asad of SWPS proved to be the victorious for his team by scoring the victory point at the last remaining 10 seconds. The final Score was 34, 33 Points. At the end of the 1^st half, the score was  _17-16  points in favour of SHAH WILAYAT PUBLIC SCHOOL .

FROBEL'S EDUCATION CENTRE Vs BAYVIEW ACADEMY (Pool A)

FROBEL'S EDUCATION CENTRE  won the match. The final Score was _35_, _28_ Pts. At the end of the 1^st Half, the Score was 12 - 11 points in favour of BAYVIEW ACADEMY.

CITY SCHOOL (DARAKSHAN CAMPUS) ANNEX AKU BASKETBALL TROPHY

The Basketball Tournament Final was played at the AKU Sports Centre Gymnasium on Thursday, September 13, 2006. The City School (Darakshan Campus) clinched the Basketball Title beating Shahwilyat Public School after a well contested, thrilling and exciting finish by 47-42 points.

Raja Jahanzeb of City School (DK) was awarded Best Player of the Tournament while Mirza Asad was presented a special Consolation Prize for his excellent performance. Individual gifts were distributed to the team players and the Tournament Officials. The Chief Guest congratulated the Finalists on their success and appreciated the excellent performance and sportsmanship shown by them. Riaz Akbar Contractor, Chief Organizer and Manager AKU Sports Centre thanked the Guests, the Heads of the participating Institutions, the technical officials and the media for all the support in organizing the successful tournament.
