2^nd Intramural Volleyball Tournament 2007

The AKU Faculty and Staff Sports & Recreation Committee in collaboration with Sports & Rehabilitation Centre organized its 2^nd intramural Volleyball Tournament 2007 which commenced from Monday, January 22, 2007 at the Sports Centre Gymnasium. The Tournament was open to all Faculty, Staff, Students, Volunteers, Members and the Household Members of the Sports Centre. The concept to have the Intramural Volleyball Tournament was a great success last year as it gave an opportunity to all the Volleyball lovers to participate and show their skills.  Keeping the same spirit, this year too the same concept was applied. Seven teams (about 75 players) participated in the tournament which included three students' teams (Medical College, SON and IED). The players representing different Departments of the University/Hospital were randomly placed according to the positions they excelled. The Teams names were as follows:

INAUGURATION

The Tournament was inaugurated by Hanif M. Shariff, Sr. Manager AKU Administrative Services along with Riaz Akbar Contractor, Chief Organizer and Manger AKU Sports Centre. On the opening day, two matches were played. AKU-Green vs.  AKU-White.  AKU Green won the inaugural match by 2-0 games. The 2^nd match was played between AKU-IED and AKU-Medical College which was won by 2-0 games by AKU-IED. The round matches conclude on January 26, 2007.

FINAL

The Semi Finals were played on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 between AKU-Green vs. AKU-SON and AKU-Blue vs. AKU-White which was won by AKU-Green and AKU-Blue respectively. The Final match was between AKU-Green v/s AKU-Blue which was played on Friday, February 2, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. at the Sports Centre Gymnasium. The final match was on best five continue points bases which was won by AKU-Green beating AKU-Blue by 3-1 games after thrilling and exciting game.

The Chief Guest at the Final was Mr. Hakim Ali Khan, Director, Facilities Management who along with Riaz Akbar Contractor, Chief Organizer & Manger, Sports & Rehabilitation Centre and Hanif M. Sharif, Sr. Manager-Administrative Services distributed the Trophies and Prizes to the Winning and Runner-up teams. The Winning Trophy was awarded to Salahuddin, Captain of the AKU-Green Team while Irfanullah Baig, Captain of the AKU-Blue Team collected the Runner-up Trophy on behalf of their teams.  The Man of the Final Match Award was presented to Salahuddin of AKU-Green (Food Services Dept.) for demonstrating excellent skills in the game.  The Best Player of the Tournament Award was given to Mukhtiar Ali of AKU-White (Dept. Animal House) for consistently performing well throughout the Tournament. Special Conciliation Prizes were given to Nisar Ali of AKU-Blue (Dept. Bio-Medical) and Meerdin (Dept. Food Services) of AKU-Green.  Individual prizes to the finalists, the organizers and the referees were also distributed. The Semi- Finals and the Final matches were supervised by senior referees Syed Furqan Hussain and Mohd. Ali.
