AKU INTER-DEPARTMENT TAPE BALL CRICKET TOURNAMENT 2006 FINAL - RADIOLOGY DEPARTMENT 'A' TEAM ANNEX THE TROPHY

The Final of the Inter-Department Tape Ball Cricket Tournament 2006 organized by the Faculty and Staff Sports & Recreation Committee in collaboration with the Sports & Rehabilitation Centre was played between Radiology Department "A" Team and the Sports Centre Team on Thursday, September 7, 2006 at the Football Ground which was tastefully decorated with colourful buntings spread around the field for the occasion.  A good number of spectators were present on the eve that thoroughly enjoyed the Final especially from the Department of Radiology to support their team. The Tournament was won by Radiology Department Cricket Team after an exciting match defeating Sports Centre Cricket Team by 21 runs.

Match Summary

After winning the toss, Radiology Department Team elected to bat first.  They made 87 runs for a loss of 6 wickets in the designated 8 overs.  Imran Ahmed made 23 runs and Mansoor Ali scored 35 off 16 balls. Both players batted well from the winning side. Brilliant bowling was seen by Aman A. Aziz (2/14) and Shanil Villiani (2/18). In return, Sports Center scored 66/9 in 8 overs. Radiology Department won the Final by 21 runs. M. Asif took (3/15) in his 2 overs, Imran Ahmed & Jahangir Rathore took 2 wickets each. First Class Umpires Arif Ali Khan and Zia Abbas supervised the final match while Nasir Allahrakha was the official scorer.

Mr. Firoz Rasul, President, Aga Khan University was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The President in presence of Dr. David Taylor, Acting Provost, Dr. Riaz Qureshi, Professor & Chair, Family Medicine and Convener, Faculty & Staff Sports & Recreation Committee, Hanif M. Shariff, Sr. Manager, AKU Administrative Services and Riaz Akbar Contractor, Manager Sports & Rehabilitation Centre and Chief Organizer of the Tournament presented the Winning Trophy to the Captain of the Radiology Department Team Jahangir Rathore and the Runner-up Trophy to the Skipper of the Sports Centre Team Naeem Madhani.  Imran Ahmed of Radiology Department was presented the "Man of the Final Match Award". He scored 23 runs and took 2/16 in 2 overs.  Individual prizes (T-Shirts and lowers) were given to the finalists'.  Souvenirs were also presented to Umpires, Supervisors and Jury members.

The following teams qualified to play the Quarter Finals: ISD-SDS vs. Stat Laboratory Team, Finance-FMC vs. Emergency Medicine (ER), Sports Centre vs. CHS and Radiology "A" Team vs. Operating Room (OR) Team.  The Semi Finals were played between ISD-SDS vs. Sports Centre and Emergency Medicine vs. Radiology 'A' Cricket Teams. The Final was played between Radiology 'A' Team and the Sports Centre Cricket Team

Exceptional Performance during the Tournament:There were some exceptional individual performances shown by the players of the Teams in the field of batting and bowling.

1. Fahim Wazir Ali (Finance FMC) scored 174 runs in 4 matches including 3 fifties.
   
2. Kamran Pirwani (Sports Center) scored 167 runs in 5 matches including 2 fifties.
   
3. Razi Hussain (Finance FMC) scored 118 runs in 4 matches.
   
4. Aman A. Aziz (Sports Center) grabbed 11 wickets in 5 matches.
   
5. Faisal (Emergency Medicine) & Atif Nizam (Radiology) took 10 wickets each in 5 matches.

A record number of 64 teams (more than 950 employees) participated in the Tournament (there was no women team participation this year) which commenced from Saturday, August 12, 2006 at the football ground. The teams were placed into four pools (16 teams in each pool) and playing on a knockout basis within their pools, 8 overs per inning. The top team from each pool qualified for the semi-finals and winners of the semi-finals played the final. A specially made turf wicket was prepared at the football ground to play the Tournament.
