2nd INTER UNIVERSITY THROWBALL TOURNAMENT 2006

DUHS LIFTS THROWBALL TROPHY

The 2nd Aga Khan University (AKU) Inter University Throwball event was completed at AKU Sports Centre Gymnasium on Friday, January 27, 2006 evening.  Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) clinched the Throwball Title by beating Aga Khan University (AKU) by 3-2 games in the final.  The final was played by Best of Five Games. The exciting and thrilling match was played neck to neck as the match was level 2-2 each in the initial four games.  The scores were: 1st Game: 15, 05 Points in favour of DUHS. 2nd Game: 15, 09 Points in favour of AKU. 3rd Game: 15 , 10_ Points in favour of DUHS. 4th Game: _15_, 07_ Points in favour of AKU and the 5th Games: _15_, 05_ Points in favour of DUHS.  DUHS won the final game by 3-2 Games.  The match was supervised by Ms. Gulrukh, Ms. Kauser Kamran, Side Referees Nureen Kanwal and Asma Ali.

The Chief Guest Dr. Rumina Hasan, Professor & Chairperson, Dept. Pathology/Microbiology, Aga Khan University presented the Winning Trophy to DUHS Captain Sana Shahbaz and Mrs. Rehana Saif, Executive District Officer, Community Development, City District Government, Karachi presented the Runner-up's Trophy to AKU's Captain Asma Asmatullah.   Mehrin Adhi of DUHS was awarded the Best Player of the Throwball Tournament while Sarah Aftab of AKU was given a Consolation Prize. Individual Prizes was also distributed to the players and the technical officials for their support.

The Guest of Honors paid tributes to the efforts of AKU Sports Centre Management for organizing such healthy activities specially for the youths and appreciated the State of the Art facilities at AKU Sports Gymnasium which was one of the best that they had seen in Asia.  Riaz Akbar Contractor, Chief Organizer and Manager AKU Sports Centre thanked the Guests, the Heads of the participating Institutions and the technical officials for all the support in organizing the successful tournaments.

The Tournament commenced from Saturday, January 21, 2006 at the AKU Sports Centre Gymnasium.  Eight University Teams (students from five Medical & Dental and three other professional Universities) representing reputable Educational Institutions across Karachi participated in the Tournament: Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Ziauddin Medical University (ZMU), Jinnah Medical University (JMU), Fatima Jinnah Dental College (FJDC), Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Institute of Business Management (IoBM), Greenwich University (GU) and Aga Khan University Medical College (AKU-MC). The teams were divided into two pools and the round matches of the tournament were played on league basis at the AKU Sports Centre Gymnasium.
