4th INTER SCHOOL/COLLEGIATE

THROWBALL & BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS 2006

The Aga Khan University (AKU) Sports & Rehabilitation Centre organized its 4th Inter School/Collegiate Throwball (for girls) and Basketball (for boys) Tournaments (under 19 years) in February, 2006. Eight Teams registered for Throwball and Twelve for Basketball representing reputable Educational Institutions across Karachi to participate in this prestigious event. The Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, St. Michael's Convent School, The Lyceum School, Bayview High School, St. Patrick's High School registered their contingent in both the events while Karachi Grammar School (College Section), DA Public School (O&A Levels), Shahwilayat Public School, The Hampton School, DA Degree College, Prince Aly Boys School and LeCole for Advance Studies entered in Basketball and Muhammadi Girls Secondary School, Foundation Public School and Falcon House Grammar School took part in the Throwball Tournament. The teams were divided into pools and the tournament round matches were played on league basis at the AKU Sports Centre Gymnasium. Riaz Akbar Contractor, Chief Organizer and Manager AKU Sports Centre inaugurated the Tournaments.

FINAL

The Final of the AKU Sports & Rehabilitation Centre's 4th Inter School/Collegiate Basketball and Throwball events were completed at AKU Sports Centre Gymnasium on Wednesday, March 1st, 2006.  Karachi Grammar School (KGS) clinched the Basketball Title beating DA Public School (O&A Levels) by 64-41score in the final.  After the first half, the Score was 33-19 points in favour of KGS.  The main scorers for the winners were Afak Nazim (26), Aneel Karim Wastani (11) and Abdus Sami Noor (10) while for the losers, their main scorers were Levesh Lakhani and Anas Aman (16) points each.  Messer's Javaid Khan and Aslam Niazi supervised the final match.

The Throwball Final was won by Muhammadi Girls Secondary School after a thrilling, exciting and nail biting finish by beating The Lyceum School by 3-2 games.  The Scores were:  15 - 10 ,  06 - 15,  13 - 15 , 15 - 10 and 15 -13 points respectively.  A good performance was shown by Shanila Liaquat Ali and Navroz Mansoor Ali of the winning team while Palwasha Bashir and Shafaq Sajid performed well on behalf of the losers. The match was supervised by Ms. Gul Rukh and Ms. Nuzhat Javaid, Side Referees, Asma Ali and Naureen Kanwal while Sajjad Akbar operated the electronic score board.

Mr. Nurallah Merchant, Director General, University Administration in presence of Riaz Akbar Contractor, Chief Organizer, Dr. Sohail Qureshi, Chair Sports Centre Advisory Committee and Hanif Shariff, Sr. Manager Administrative Services  presented the Throwball Winning Trophy to Shahnila Liaquat Ali, Captain of Muhammadi Girls Secondary School, and Runner-up's Trophy to The Lyceum School Captain Palwasha Bashir.   Shehnila Liaquat Ali of Mohammadi Girls Secondary School was awarded the Best Player of the Throwball Tournament while a special Consolation Prize was awarded to Shafak Sajid of the Lyceum School for consistently performing well in the Tournament.

Karachi Grammar School Captain Aneel Karim Wastani received the Basketball Winning Trophy while DA Public School (O&A Levels) Skipper Lavaish Lakhani received the Runner's Trophy.  Afak Nazim of Karachi Grammar School was awarded Best Player of the Basketball Tournament, the Highest Scorer of the Tournament Award was given to Zain Raza of Bayview High School and a special consolation prizes was also given to Lavaish Lakhani of DA Public School. The Chief Guest Mr. Nurallah Merchant congratulated the winning teams and appreciated each individual player for their sportsmanship. He appreciated the efforts of AKU Sports Centre's Management and Tournament Organizers for organizing such healthy activities especially for the youths.  Mr. Riaz Akbar Contractor, Chairman Organizing Committee and Manager AKU Sports Centre thanked the Guests, the Heads of the participating Institutions and the technical officials for all the support in organizing the successful tournaments.
