3rd AKU SPROTS CENTRE SIX-A-SIDE RAMADAN FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

The inaugural of the Aga Khan University (AKU) 3rd AKU Sports Centre Six-a-Side Ramadan Football Festival Tournament was held on Friday night, October 14, 2005 at the AKU Football Ground. Sixteen Teams (including two AKU Medical College students' teams) representing Institution's/Clubs across Karachi are participating in the Tournament.  The Tournament is being played under flood lights and on league basis. The Tournament would progress through group stages to Quarters, Semis and Final.

Mr. U.F. Tariq Lutfi, Chief Coach Pakistan & PIA Football Team inaugurated the Tournament alongwith Mr. Riaz Contractor, Chief Organizer & Manager, AKU Sports Centre, Mr. Hanif Shariff, Sr. Manager Administrative Services and other officials. The Teams and the officials were introduced to the Guest who later kicked the ball and officially inaugurated the Tournament.

On the opening day, three matches were played. The opening match was played between Aga Khan Gymkhana (AKG) Green and Laurention Football Club (LFC).  AKG Green beat LFC by 2-nil goals and won the opening match.  Arif Ali scored the 1st goal in the 13th minute of the first half while Sohail Pervaiz scored the 2nd goal for the winner in the 10th minute of the 2nd half.

Guest of Honour’s Mr. Tariq Lutfi, Chief Coach Pakistan and PIA Football Team seen kicking the ball and officially inaugurating the 3rd AKU Sports Centre Six-a-Side Ramadan Football Tournament in presence of Mr. Riaz Akbar Contractor, Chief Organizer and Manager Sports Centre, Mr. Hanif Shariff, Sr. manager Administrative Services, Captains of AKG and LFC Football Team and other officials at AKU Football Ground.

Other Match Results:  In the 2nd match, National Athletics Football Club (NAFC) beat Aga Khan University Medical College (AKUMC) 'A' Team by 1-0 goal scored by Mehmud Raza in the 9th minute of the 2nd half.  In the 3rd match AKG Red beat Football Club Defence (FCD) Blue by 3-1 goals.  Muzzafar of AKU made the first hatrick of the Tournament.  He scored 3 goals in the 7th, 13th and 14th minute of the match while John Horwitz scored a goal from the loser in the first half of the ninth minute.
