At Aga Khan University's (AKU) Health Sciences Library (HSL) you need a valid library card to:
- Use library resources within the premises;
- Borrow material from the library;
- Use HSL web databases and services;
- Use library photocopying services;
- Use inter-library loan facilities.
How to get a library card
Library Card for Students
Throughout the academic year student cards are issued at the Jivraj section from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM to register students of Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS). Students should bring their
- college registration card;
- recent photograph;
- duly filled in library membership form, which is available at the Jivraj section and which can also be downloaded from the library's Intranet website.
Library Card for Faculty
Faculty cards are issued at the Jivraj section from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM every working day. Faculty members should bring their
- employee card;
- recent photograph;
- duly filled in library membership form, which is available at the Jivraj section.
Library card for general staff
Non-student, non-faculty staff of AKU may also apply for library membership card in person at the Jivraj section between 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM by submitting a
- duly filled in application form;
- recent photograph;
- copy of their staff ID.
Guest membership
Non-AKU health science professionals including postgraduate students, physicians, nurses and other research scholars may be granted library membership on a limited basis and at the discretion of the librarian. Such applicants are required to
- bring a letter from their institutional heads or academic advisors;
- pay a registration fee of Rs 100;
- pay an annual fee of Rs 4,000.
They are not however allowed to check out any library material. They may request photocopies from books and periodicals for which they will be charged Rs 2 per page.
Corporate Membership
Pharmaceutical companies, medical institutions and hospitals may also apply for corporate membership of the Library at a fee of Rs 25,000 per annum. In addition to the membership fee they will have to pay for most of the services such as database search (Rs 350 each topic), Internet search (Rs 50 per hour), photocopying from books and periodicals (Rs 10 per page), etc.
Validity and Renewal of the Cards
All library cards are valid for one academic session but may be renewed before or after expiration.
Lost library cards
Report lost library cards immediately to the Jivraj section. Rs 25 replacement fee may be charged for a new card.
