Inpatient Services

Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi (AKUH,N) has general ward, semi-private and private rooms. It also has fully equipped delivery rooms for normal delivery and all obstetrics emergencies. Also available is a fully equipped nursery for normal babies and a Premature Care Unit with skilled neonatal nurses and paeditricians. Patients can choose to be admitted by the Hospital’s team of resident doctors or by a private doctor. The Hospital employs a team of resident doctors specialising in medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, surgery and paediatrics. Hospital patients benefit from a team-based approach to clinical needs. The resident doctor is able to assess and refer medical conditions to other doctors in the Hospital.

Surgical Wards

A total of 73 beds are dedicated to separate male and female surgical wards. There are three semi-private female rooms; three semi-private and four private male rooms with built in wardrobes and washing facilities. The wards admit both emergency and elective surgical cases with qualified surgical nurses, resident and consultant surgeons in all surgical specialties.

Renal Unit

The unit has four beds fitted with piped oxygen and haemodialysis machines serving patients with kidney diseases manned by qualified renal nurses, resident doctors and consultant nephrologists (kidney specialists).

General Wards

The general ward has 33 spacious beds and four semi-private rooms with built in wardrobes and washing facilities. The wards admit patients with malaria, hypertension, urinary tract infections, pneumonia and gastroenteritis served by resident doctors, consultant physicians and nurses.

Catering

The catering department works closely with the wards, client relations, nutrition and administration departments to stay current with patient needs. This allows meals to meet patient needs and is consistently monitored for standard adjustments. Premium service is provided to all the hospital patients irrespective of bed choice.

Multi-Religious Prayer Room

A multi-religious prayer room is available on the ground floor (between the ICU and EEG/ECG Department) for patients, relatives and staff.

It is open daily from 7:00 AM – 9:00 PM.
