Heart Protection Clinic
The basic purpose of this clinic is primary prevention and diagnosis of heart problems at an initial stage. It is a two-visit clinic. On the first visit, a preliminary examination, exercise tolerance test (ETT) and specimens for fasting blood glucose, cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, high-density lipoprotein, triglycerides, total lipids, haemoglobin, creatinine and a new marker for picking early heart disease called hsCRP are obtained. On the second visit, consultant cardiologists perform a thorough physical check-up and discuss and calculate the patient's risk of developing heart disease in 20 years, by a validated computer score. The stress level assessment, physical activity and diet is also analysed by a nutritionist. Results of the score and cardiologist and nutritionist advice will be given to the patient during this visit.
Women Heart Clinic
Aga Khan University Hospital is the first hospital in Pakistan to offer a dedicated clinic for preventing heart disease in women. The services provided by the Women Heart Clinic include women risk factor assessment for developing heart disease, education regarding resonation of heart disease symptoms typically seen in women, comprehensive cardiac diagnostic evaluation most suitable for women, hormone replacement therapy discussion, weight reduction discussion and if necessary referring patients to other special services.
