The BMT Unit is located in Ibn Zuhr Building and on the second floor of D-2 ward. It is a state-of-the-art facility which started operations in April 2004. It comprises of highly qualified nursing and medical personnel trained specially in this field, Central HEPA Filtered Rooms with positive pressures, infection control system, comprehensive laboratory services including Gamma Irradiator and blood bank. Presently it is a three-bed unit and is in the process of expansion. With a 68 percent success rate the BMT unit provides services to patients with following diseases: Acute Lymphocytic Leukaemia, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia, Ewings Sarcoma, Aplastic Anaemia, Thalassaemia Major, Multiple Myeloma and Lymphomas. The two treatment procedures used include Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) and Peripheral Stem Cell Transfusion (PSCT).
