As a part of AKUH’s philanthropic mission, the Patient Welfare Programme offers financial assistance to indigent patients who are unable to pay for their medical treatment, without any discrimination on the basis of race or religion. The Hospital’s tiered price structure enables all patients visiting the Community Health Centre or the General Wards to receive subsidised medical care of the same high quality as full-paying patients. Patients who are unable to pay even the subsidised rates are further assisted through a direct waiver of charges by the Programme. The financial needs of the patient are determined by AKUH Welfare Eligibility Criteria, which is based on a continuous assessment method. All patients are encouraged to make some contribution towards their medical costs.

AKUH Patient Welfare Programme has disbursed over
Rs. 2 billion to more than 300,000 patients since 1986.
