The Marketing department supports AKUH in meeting the needs and expectations of its customers. The Department’s scope of activities includes increasing awareness of Hospital services, increasing accessibility of Hospital services by patients, signing Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with corporations, facilitating corporate clients with their healthcare needs, facilitating national and international patient referrals, providing information and assistance to patients and visitors and developing linkages with community physicians.

The Department has a strong focus on corporate clients and has finalised MOU with over 150 corporate clients ranging from the government and semi-government sectors to multinationals and foreign consulates. Comprehensive hospital services including credit facility is offered to organisations and companies on signing the MOU. The Department is actively engaged in meeting the health care needs of all corporate clients including inpatient service, pre-employment screening and facilitating training requests in areas such as life-support and occupational health.

Public health awareness programmes organised by the Marketing Department include the internationally acknowledged Signs, Symptoms and Care (SSC) programmes for increasing awareness of timely diagnosis of health problems. These programmes are routinely held in Karachi (Stadium Road and Clifton Medical Services), Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Quetta and UAE (Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain). Health awareness programmes are also organised at schools, colleges, clubs and corporate offices. ‘Aap Aur Sehat’, an AKUH branded health awareness programme aired nationwide on FM Radio is another health awareness programme for the general public.

The Department regularly organises Guest Lectures and Continuous Medical Education (CME) programmes in Hyderabad, Quetta and UAE. Patients interested in visiting AKUH for treatment can contact our Information and Referral Desks located in cities of Hyderabad and Quetta in Pakistan and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates for appointments, second opinions and logistical assistance.

The Aga Khan University Hospital’s Marketing Department operates a Physician Relations Office, as a point of contact, with a full-time coordinator who is responsible for maintaining the hospital’s database of referring consultants, generating second opinion feedback letters and providing necessary assistance to facilitate referrals. All consultants on the AKUH database receive service updates periodically as well as the AKUH Physician’s Newsletter. The office also serves the educational needs of referring physicians and regularly invites them to Continuing Medical Education (CME) programmes and other research and educational seminars organised at the University.

The Information Desks at the Hospital (main courtyard and Private Wing lobby) are an integral part of the Marketing department and provide guidance and assistance to patients, visitors and callers by responding to queries regarding Hospital services. Each year, over two million visitors and over half a million callers are assisted through these desks.

Patient Satisfaction Surveys are a research function of the Marketing Department. These surveys enable the Hospital to seek its patients’ views on services they would have received at the Hospital. The Marketing Department collects and stores satisfaction data, computes satisfaction ratings and analyzes data by using standard statistical techniques. Patient Satisfaction Reports are shared with senior management and service providers on a quarterly basis and serve as a tool for continuous quality improvement in all dimensions of service delivery.
