Family Medicine Department

Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) is the pioneer in introducing Family Medicine Services in Pakistan. The objective is to provide affordable health care to the entire family, not only when sick, but also to help them remain healthy.

The Department of Family Medicine at AKUH, through its Family Medicine consultants and well-trained medical and paramedical staff with state-of-the-art screening and diagnostic programmes, provides the following services:

• State-of-the-art outpatient medical care;
• Women health screening services including pap smear, breast examination, etc;
• Immunisation services both routine and travel related;
• Preventive services including smoking cessation, cholesterol and weight reduction;
• Health promotion and screening service for high blood pressure, hepatitis, diabetes, etc;
• Minor surgical procedures at Community Health Centre (CHC) such as circumcisions, skin biopsies, wart removal, incision and drainage, toe nail removals, etc;
• Counselling service for self-relaxation, pain management and care for the terminally ill;
• Family planning service and well baby clinic;
• Pre-employment annual check-ups, health insurance examinations, pre-immigration medicals and screening for employees;
• Guidance and advice on all aspects of health;
• Ambulatory, diabetic and hypertension services;
• Medical care of corporate sector employees.
