Director, University Partnerships Office
Farzana Karim-Haji joined the Aga Khan University in Pakistan in 2001 to work on strategic planning and development of AKU’s emerging international projects in Afghanistan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. In 2006, she took on a new and expanded role of establishing and developing AKU’s University Partnerships Office, responsible for the management, development and strengthening of academic partnerships and collaborations with national and international Universities.
Before joining AKU, Farzana worked at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), based in New York, as a policy specialist on international development issues, focused on 166 countries. In addition she has consulted for the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) in the area of human rights and gender development. She received her BA (Honors) in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the University of California at Berkeley, and her MSc in International Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She also completed a Post Graduate degree in Islamic Studies and the Humanities from the Institute of Ismaili Studies.
Jalal Inayat Ali
Coordinator, International Internship Programme
University Partnerships Office
Jalal Inayat Ali joined the University Partnerships Office in July 2008 and is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing the International Internship Programme. Jalal also assists with managing and reporting on the networks related to the University's long-term partnerships and goals for the regions through the development and upkeep of a partnership database.
Before joining this office, Jalal was the administrative officer to the Provost of AKU and has also worked in the Academic Administration Department of AKU's Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED), Pakistan. He has a postgraduate diploma in Public Administration from Karachi University.
Saleema Rahim Punjwani
Administrative Officer, University Partnerships Office
Saleema Rahim Punjwani has been at AKU since February 2001. Within the University Partnerships Office, her responsibilities include logistic arrangements for incoming and outgoing senior delegations to universities of interest, as well as the management of supplies and resources, among other vital office functions.
Saleema previously worked at the AKU-IED Pakistan as administrative staff for the faculty in the Master of Education programme.
