AKU Sets up Flood Relief Coordination Centre (FRCC)

AKU staff to contribute day’s salary for flood relief work

August 11, 2010

Did you know that the north of Pakistan received 900 mm of rain within 24 hours in the last week of July  – almost 90 times the country’s annual average? Heavy rain continued for the following two weeks, with unprecedented flooding. The flood water is estimated to begin to receding by the end of August or early September. An estimated 20 million people have been displaced – more than the population of Karachi – and there is still the threat of more rain and further flooding.

AKU has announced a plan to help with the relief efforts of this large scale disaster unfolding in Pakistan, starting with a voluntary donation of a day’s salary by AKU employees.
