Mr Yusuf H. Keshavjee
Mr Keshavjee brings to the AKU Board of Trustees diverse experience from East Africa's private as well as government and civil society sectors. He currently chairs the Boards of Honey Care Africa Ltd., a groundbreaking social enterprise which has brought over 10,000 farmers across East Africa above the poverty line, mainly women and youth. He is also Chair of the White Rose Group of Companies that includes a network of 50 retail franchises and outlets in Kenya and Uganda with real estate holdings, including a beach resort.
Mr Keshavjee was one of only four individuals chosen to represent Kenya at President Obama’s Entrepreneurial Summit in Washington DC in 2010. He was honored with a "Head of State Commendation" by the President of Kenya in 2005 for exemplary service to the people of Kenya, and was also appointed by the Kenyan Government to the National Council for Children Services. He has generously contributed his time to various organizations, including the Advisory Committees of the Ford Foundation Philanthropy Initiative and the World Bank/IFC Grassroots Business Fund to develop social enterprises in East Africa.
As part of his work with the Aga Khan Development Network, Mr. Keshavjee served the Aga Khan Foundation's (AKF) National Committee for Kenya for fifteen years, including as its Chair, after which he also chaired AKF's Regional East Africa Committee from 1994 to 2000. In addition to serving in other leadership roles within the Ismaili community, Mr. Keshavjee was the President of its Council for Kenya with jurisdiction over Rwanda, Burundi, DRC and South Africa from 1999 to 2005. He was appointed on the Aga Khan University’s Board of Trustees in January 2006.
Mr Keshavjee earned his Bachelor of Science in Economics with Honors from the London School of Economics and is a graduate of the Executive Management Program at Harvard Business School.
