Vice-Provost (Student Experience)

The University Registrar and Associate Vice-Provost (Student Experience) heads the University’s Office of the Registrar, Student Experience Network and Alumni Relations Office.  He is responsible for providing strategic leadership and guidance to these important functions as well as ensuring the quality and soundness of the University’s registarial services, student affairs and alumni relations across all AKU campuses.

Lou Ariano joined AKU as Registrar in April 2008. Mr Ariano, a Canadian national, holds a Master of Arts degree from the University of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada and has over 30 years of experience and expertise working within university structures and governance. His last appointment, prior to joining AKU was as Registrar at the McMaster University. He also served at York University and Brock University in a similar capacity and at Osgoode Hall Law School as Assistant Dean (Student Services).

In addition to serving on the executive committee of the Association of Registrars of the Universities and Colleges of Canada (ARUCC), Mr Ariano has served the Registrars' Association as a member of the National Transcript Guide Task Force; the ARUCC/HRSDC Task Force on Registered Education Savings Plans; and the Canada Revenue Agency advisory committee on Transit Passes Programs at post-secondary institutions.  He has represented McMaster University on the Council of Ontario Universities’ (COU) Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act Task Force and the COU Working Group on “Increasing Access to Credentials Recognition for Internationally Education Professionals”.  Mr Ariano has presented papers on fake degrees and phoney transcripts to regional, national and international university administrator and registrar conferences.​​
