On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is our pleasure to invitecolleagues from worldwide to participate in the 17th National Health Sciences Research Symposium (NHSRS) on Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) to be held from February 25-27, 2014 in Karachi, Pakistan.
NCDs burden is high and growing across the globe, especially in developing countries. NCDs are responsible for more than 60% deaths worldwide and 80% of these deaths occur in developing countries including Pakistan. AKU organized the first Asian- African Summit on Chronic Diseases in Kampala, Uganda in 2009 with participation from 23 countries and is perfectly positioned to take a lead in this area and to build further on what has already been achieved by taking this agenda forward and by highlighting it as a major health issue in the region and worldwide.
Hence, the symposium will create an avenue for all the stakeholders; involving health care professionals, researchers, policy makers, industry leaders, media and general public to share and expand the knowledge and understanding on wide spectrum of determinants of NCDs. It will also facilitate policy makers and leaders from the civil society to propose and develop practical interventional approaches to combat these diseases. In addition, the symposium will also create awareness among general public about the burden, prevention and treatment modalities.
In the end, on behalf of the NHSRS Organizing Committee, we warmly welcome you to Karachi in February 2014.
