Mentoring as Professional Development
A two-day continuing professional development programme
The course will provide you with an opportunity to:
- express your prior experiences of a mentoring relationship/s;
- understand and critique the philosophical issues of mentoring;
- distinguish between the types of mentoring;
- deliberate and critique the process of mentoring and
- develop a professional development plan.
Dr Ayesha Bashiruddin is an Associate Professor at the Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED). She has extensive experience of teaching ESL to adult students. She has Master’s degrees in English from the University of Peshawar and in Applied Linguistics from the University of Durham, UK. She obtained her Ph.D. from Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto (OISE/UT). In her current capacity, Ayesha has been actively engaged in conceptualizing, developing and teaching different courses offered in the M.Ed., PhD. and other professional development programmes offered at the university. Her teaching and research interests are in English language education, teacher learning and qualitative research methods, including autobiographical research. She is currently engaged in exploring how changing contexts influence learning and teaching.
