In Syria, AKU has been working with the Syrian government ministries since 2003 to strengthen nursing and teacher education. AKU has helped to shape national policies in these areas and bring recognition to the need for professional teaching and nursing standards in the country.
With the Syrian Ministry of Health, AKU revised the nursing curriculum to focus on clinical practice, comprehensive faculty development, infrastructure improvement and increased teaching learning resources. This new curriculum has now been implemented in 14 of the Ministry's nursing schools.
AKU-IED in Pakistan is working with teachers, teacher educators, English Language Inspectors through the Syrian Ministry of Education, Aga Khan Educational Services and the Aga Khan Development Network Syria to develop institutional capacity to improve the quality of education in the country.
