Perhaps the most significant transformation taking place at AKU is the planned establishment of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

Once completed, this 1,100-acre campus located north of Karachi will encompass undergraduate liberal arts and graduate programmes in a residential community environment.

The establishment of this campus represents a major step towards becoming a comprehensive university.

In the classroom, the FAS liberal arts approach is meant to encourage students to engage in disciplined reflection and critical thinking about the region and its place in the global community; nurturing a new generation of leaders, open to fresh expression and new insight, able to energize others with the spirit of cooperation and positive change.

The University’s ethic of service came into play when Pakistan suffered from severe floods during 2010 and 2011. AKU initiated a flood response programme which provided health care and support to more than a million flood affectees in the Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan.
