Achieving yet another milestone, the Aga Khan University Hospital won 10th Annual Environment Excellence Award 2013. The Award Distribution Ceremony was held on Friday, July 5, 2013 at Marriot Hotel, Karachi. Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Former Advisor of Prime Minister for Textile and Mr. Sohail Wajahat Siddiqui, Former Federal Minister for Petroleum were the Chief Guests.
The Environment Excellence Award is arranged every year by National Forum for Environment & Health (NFEH) in collaboration with United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Ministry of Environment, Government of Pakistan. This time 150 organizations submitted their nominations and 75 (Including top ten awards and AKUH was one of the top ten awards receiver) were awarded by an independent panel of jury headed by Nadeem Arif.
Each year, the competition is announced on the national platform and AKUH is winning the award every year since 2006.
Criteria of the competition includes the Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Management Program of the organization, Leadership Commitment, Staff Participation, Goals and Objectives, Training Programs and Progress, Incident Reporting and Analysis, Waste Management, and Performance Monitoring, Measurement & Improvement. Relevant data and record of last year was collected from various organizations and analyzed/compared to identify the award winner. A panel of judges reviewed the entries and shortlisted the organizations meeting the award criteria and AKUH,K was among the Top Ten award winners. The decision of the jury has subsequently been endorsed by the Environment Protection Agency, Government of Sindh and Pakistan Environment Agency, Islamabad, Ministry of Environment, Government of Pakistan.
This has been made possible by the quality and committed leadership, teamwork, affective contribution of Safety Committee, and employees participation, and therefore, everyone deserves to be congratulated in this, yet another, achievement of AKU.
However, this also puts us under increasing responsibility of further improving our EHS system to reach other milestones.
