Dr Bhutta receives Samuel J. Fomon Nutrition Award

Dr Zulfiqar Bhutta, Founding Director of the Centre for Excellence in Women and Child Health at Aga Khan University has been selected by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) as the recipient of the prestigious Samuel J. Fomon Nutrition Award. The award recognizes outstanding achievement in research relating to the nutrition of infants and children. He becomes the first non-North American recipient of this award.
Established in 1944, AAP Nutrition Award (renamed the AAP Samuel J. Fomon Nutrition Award in 2008) recognizes an individual or a project for outstanding achievement in research relating to the nutrition of infants and children. The award is presented for research conducted in the United States and Canada that has been completed or publicly reported.
Dr Bhutta who also serves as the Co-Director of the SickKids Centre for Global Child Health has been selected by the AAP for his outstanding contribution in nutrition research.
Bhutta leads several efforts at SickKids in global child health including a knowledge synthesis and translation platform focused on key areas of adolescent nutrition; nutrition in relation to early childhood development; fortification; and nutrition in pregnancy. He is also spearheading the development of a free e-learning course in global child health and maternal and child nutrition.
