Electives
 

Aga Khan University offers Electives to trainees enrolled in a postgraduate programme either locally and/or outside Pakistan. It is not recommended for medical graduates waiting for examination results, between jobs or waiting for visas, etc.

Electives would comprise of clinical, research and/or educational activities in the following disciplines:

  • Pathology and Microbiology
  • Community Health Sciences
  • Medicine:
  • General Medicine
  • Cardiology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Neurology
  • Oncology
  • Pulmonology
  • Surgery:
  • General Surgery
  • Orthopaedics
  • Otolaryngology
  • Ophthalmology
  • Urology
  • Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Neurosurgery
  • Plastic Surgery
  • Anaesthesia
  • Family Medicine
  • Paediatrics
  • Psychiatry
  • Radiology
  • Obstetrics and Gynaecology (females only)

Trainees should come prepared with objectives, which would be pre-approved for feasibility by the Supervisor/Programme Director of the respective programme.

Only those candidates who are in a training programme (residency/fellowship) and for which it is a requirement may apply for clinical attachment. Applicants should list their choices in order of priority on the attached application form.

Submission of application does not guarantee confirmation of proposed electives.

Applicants will be notified of the University decision approximately four weeks after receiving the completed electives form.

Accommodation

The University provides accommodation facilities for out-station candidates only, on first come first serve basis.

The University female hostel has air-conditioned, single, furnished room accommodation with communal washroom and laundry facilities. The candidates pay for their living expenses. The room rent is *PKR 2,950 per month and food, which may be purchased from the cafeteria, may cost up to PKR 250 per day.

Due to shortage of rooms, it is not always possible to get accommodation in the hostel. Requests for accommodation must accompany the application form.
