Postgraduate Medical Education is one of the key activities of Aga Khan University. Its impact has been felt nationally as its systems and processes have helped influence postgraduate medical education all over the country. Its graduates are serving at AKU, all over Pakistan and overseas as well.
Recently the University has started postgraduate medical education programmes in East Africa and they are based on systems and processes developed and tested at the University here, in Pakistan.
The hallmark of AKU's PGME programmes is the stress not only on the acquisition of professional skills and knowledge but also on the development of professionalism in its students. The programmes' aim to inculcate the spirit of inquiry and research as well as the virtues of empathy, collegiality and cooperation.
Research occupies a key position in all the University's programmes. This is equally true for PGME and one major step in building research capacity is the
MSc in Clinical Research programme for our residents. This is a unique programme that aims to
develop the academic
physicians of tomorrow.
I hope the philosophy and scope of our PGME programmes can help attract the best students.
