High pass rate for AKU-EB HSSC students

July 20, 2010

Karachi, Pakistan: This year’s Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) position holders, graduating from Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKU-EB) are all from Karachi.

Muhammad Aziz from Aga Khan Higher Secondary School Karachi, this year’s top position holder, achieved 88.2 per cent. The second and third position holders were Syed Akber Ali Shah with 87.8 percent and Mehak Rajani with 87.5 per cent, also from Aga Khan Higher Secondary School in Karachi.

The number of HSSC II candidates sitting the exam this year was twice the amount last year, which was the first year AKU-EB examined both parts of the HSSC. The overall pass rate for this year’s HSSC exams was 85.7 per cent.

“Students last year gained admission to over 60 leading universities and higher education institutions worldwide including the University of Regina in Canada, the University of Hertfordshire in the UK and top Pakistani medical and engineering universities including NED University of Engineering and Technology, Dow University of Health Sciences and Lahore University of Management Sciences,” said Dr Thomas Christie, Director, AKU-EB. “Our HSSC candidates have the skills to compete and get into leading universities anywhere.”

To facilitate students moving from higher secondary education to university studies, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan and AKU-EB have been collaborating for the past two years on refining testing and assessment practices in universities across the country. “Because educational standards cannot be improved in isolation, we are pleased to be working with the HEC to expand the perception of learning to something more than that which can be measured with just marks. Assessment is also about preparing a child with the critical thinking skills to be able to adapt to any situation in his or her future,” stated Dr Christie.

Candidates may view this year’s HSSC results online with a detailed breakdown on how they performed as compared to their group peers.
