About Dr Nizam Damani
Dr Nizam obtained his qualification from Dow Medical College, Karachi, and has worked at Aga Khan Hospital, Nairobi, Kenya. He did his training in Microbiology and Infection Control in London and Belfast. Currently he is the Director of Infection Prevention and Control at the Southern Health & Social Care Trust and Honorary Lecturer in Clinical Microbiology at the Queens University, Belfast, Northern Ireland (NI), UK.
Dr Nizam is a member of the British Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, National Working Party of Antibiotic Sensitivity Testing methods and has served on various project boards, steering committees and working parties at the Department of Health, NI on both health care associated infections and diagnostic microbiology services. He was a member of the Regional Council of the Royal College of Pathologists, London and served on the International Faculty Board of the Infection Control Programme, Ministry of Health, Egypt. He is one of the founder members of the Infection Control Society of Pakistan.
Currently, he is Treasurer of the International Federation of Infection Control and editor of the Internal Journal of International Control. He has published papers in peer-reviewed journals and has written books on Infection Control which have been translated in Polish and Croatian languages; Turkish and Hungarian translations are under way.
Dr Nizam is a member of the WHO Core group of the Global Patient Safety Challenge Clean care is safer care' and technical expert of the WHO to help implement the WHO Hand hygiene guidelines in Pakistan.
