Welcome Address to AKU President at Aga Khan University Convocation 2006

Your Highness, Your Excellencies, President Rasul, Ladies and Gentlemen

As-Salaam-wa-Laikum

We at AKU share a family bond by caring for each other and doing the very best we can for the betterment of the University. We now have an important addition to this family, our president Mr Firoz Rasul to whom we convey our warm welcome. Sir, it is our pleasure to have you as our leader and we pledge to you our support in its entirety.

Mr President, a lot will naturally be expected of you and you will also be having your own expectations of us. We look at this reciprocal feeling as a healthy sign and challenge to work together to propel AKU to newer heights. Your aspirations will be the catalyst which will take this university to the next level. We eagerly await future developments and are mindful of our roles in this journey. We are focused and ready. Presently, there is a ripple of anticipation, which we hope to transform into a raging torrent of excitement.

As you strategize to build on AKU's achievements and take it forward, please feel completely assured that we will do whatever it takes to help you accomplish this mission. On behalf of all the staff, I say to you in all sincerity – we have within us the fire of determination to make this happen, howsoever difficult it might be as obstacles are bound to come your way.

The loyalty within the AKU family will strengthen our resolve to move steadily along the road to progress. We will strive to ensure that AKU remains a university of distinction in line with the vision of its founder and Chancellor, His Highness the Aga Khan.

There is much to accomplish, but we have already taken a huge step forward by pledging our total commitment to the task. Since the last two decades, the AKU team has negotiated many obstacles along its path and we will continue to make great strides towards realizing the great purposes of the University.

Together we shall take AKU to the summit of success. And we shall!
