The Convocation
His Highness the Aga Khan, Chairman of Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) and Chancellor of Aga Khan University (AKU), presided over the University's 19th Convocation ceremony, marking the graduation of 273 students in the fields of medicine, nursing and education. The chief guest was Mr Mohammedmian Soomro, Chairman of the Senate, Government of Pakistan. The ceremony was attended by the Chief Minister of Sindh, vice-chancellors, senior government officials, diplomats, national and international academicians, donors, and prominent citizens.
At the Convocation ceremony in 2006, the Chancellor formally installed Firoz Rasul as the President of the University. He had introduced President Rasul as a successor to the first President, Mr Shamsh Kassim-Lakha at the previous Convocation.
The investiture of a university president is a formal induction into office. The ceremony is typically held during the president's first year in office or at the conclusion of the first year. The Chancellor presented President Rasul with a replica of the University seal in the form of a medallion which symbolises presidential authority and trust.
