of Letters (DLitt), honoris causa, awarded to Dr. Ahmed Hasan
Dani
Dr. Dani is recognised as one of Pakistan’s foremost historians
and as the doyen of archaeology in the country. He is particularly
distinguished for his work on South and Central Asian civilisations.
His distinguished career spans over half a century and ranges from
archaeological surveys to professorships in history and archaeological
surveys to professorships in history and archaeology in a number
of universities in Pakistan. He is currently Professor Emeritus
of Quaid-e-Azam University and Honorary Director of the Taxila Institute
of Asian Civilisations at the same university. On the national front,
he has served for several years as advisor on archaeology to the
government of Pakistan and as chairman of the National Fund for
Cultural Heritage.
Dr. Dani has been visiting professor at a number of universities
in England, Australia, and the United States. He has led UNESCO
International teams for “Desert Route Expedition of the Silk Road
in China” and “Steppe Route Expedition for the Silk Road in the
USSR”.
Dr. Dani’s world-wide recognition is reflected in the numerous
awards he has received from governments, organisations and universities
in Bangladesh, France, Germany, India, Italy, Tajikistan, Turkey
and the United Kingdom, besides receiving the national civil awards
of Sitara-e-Imtiaz and Hilal-e-Imtiaz from the Government of Pakistan.
He is the author of over 50 research publications, books and monographs
which are well-recognised and cited.
It is with deep appreciation that Aga Khan University recognises
Dr. Dani’s outstanding achievement in the fields of archaeology
and history which are becoming increasingly relevant to the expanding
academic domains of Aga Khan University in the fields of Arts and
Sciences.
The University awards the Degree of Doctor of Letters (DLitt),
honoris causa to Dr. Ahmad Hasan Dani.
